Current Projects

Electronic Flight Information System

Developing a digital flight display for use in experimental aircraft.  Current commercial systems cost multiple thousands of dollars and are difficult to use and fairly limited.  Our system is cheap, fully functional and fully extensible.  This project is funded by ISU and will be presented at this years AIAA region V student conference.

Amateur Radio

I was first license in late September of 2009 as an Amateur Extra (I passed all three classes in one session) and was assigned the callsign AC0QC.  Shortly after I took advantage of the vanity callsign program and switch to NV1K.  You will find many things related to amateur radio here.  SKYWARN stuff, my equipment, helpful links and programs that I write.  I am currently developing a Software Defined Radio (SDR) and you will find all of that material here as well.  Also, be sure to check out CollegeARC.com for lots of amateur radio related things.  You can catch me on 40 and 20 meters most weekends in the evening and hopefully soon on digital.

Crown Victoria Restoration and Conversion

This summer I purchased a 2000 Ford Crown Victoria – Interceptor.  I will be documenting my process of turning it into a daily driver and then transforming it into a storm chaser.  Lots of electrical work and basic modifications along with a little bit of repair.
